These terms are an agreement between you and Garden Studio ("we", "us") for the Workbench Budgeting desktop app ("the app"), this website, and the online account and bank syncing services behind them (together, "the service"). By downloading the app, creating an account, or subscribing, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy.
What you get
One subscription, $8.99 per month (US dollars, plus any applicable sales tax), unlocks the whole app, including bank syncing. There are no separate tiers or add-ons.
The app comes with a Sample profile filled with example data. It's free to use without an account or subscription, so you can try the app before paying. Your own profiles (your own budgets and data) need an active subscription. The Sample profile can't connect banks.
Versions of the app released before subscriptions were introduced keep working as they did, free of charge; the subscription terms below apply to versions that offer sign-in.
Your account
- You must be at least 18 (or the age of majority where you live) to subscribe.
- Give us an email address you can receive mail at, keep your password private, and tell us if you think someone else has used your account.
- You're responsible for what happens under your account. One account is for one person; don't share it.
Free trial
- New subscribers get one free week, with full access to the app, including bank syncing.
- You need to enter a card to start the trial. You won't be charged during the trial.
- When the trial ends, your card is charged $8.99 and the subscription renews monthly, unless you cancel before the trial ends. We email you a reminder a few days before it ends.
- If you cancel during the trial, you keep access until the trial's end and are never charged.
- One free trial per person. Canceling a trial doesn't give you another one, and making extra accounts to get more trials isn't allowed.
Billing and renewal
- Your subscription renews automatically every month, and your card is charged $8.99 at the start of each period, until you cancel. Payments are processed by Stripe.
- Cancel any time from your account page ("Manage subscription"). You keep access until the end of the period you've paid for, and you won't be charged again.
- If a renewal payment fails, you keep access for 7 days while you update your card. After that, the app locks until payment goes through.
- If we ever change the price, we'll email you at least 30 days before it applies to you, and you can cancel before then.
- Refunds are covered by our Refund Policy.
Your data
Your budgets, transactions, and other data are stored on your own computer and belong to you. We don't have a copy, so back up your computer; we can't restore data you lose.
If your subscription ends, nothing on your computer is deleted. Your own profiles stay on your computer, locked, and open again with all their data when you resubscribe. The Sample profile stays available. Your bank connections are disconnected at Plaid when the subscription ends, so after resubscribing you'll need to connect your banks again; transactions you already have aren't affected.
The app checks your subscription with our server from time to time. If it can't reach the server, it keeps working for up to 3 days past the end of the period you've paid for.
Bank syncing
- Bank syncing uses Plaid. By connecting a bank you authorize us and Plaid to access your account information at that bank, as described in our Privacy Policy.
- You can connect up to 10 banks.
- Banks sometimes need you to sign in again, change what they share, or stop working with Plaid. We can't guarantee that every bank will connect or that synced data will be complete, accurate, or up to date. Check important numbers against your bank.
Not financial advice
The app is a tool for organizing and planning your own money. Nothing in it is financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. Decisions you make with it are your own.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Get around the subscription, the free-trial limit, or other access controls.
- Connect bank accounts you aren't authorized to access.
- Interfere with, overload, or try to break into the service, or use it to break the law.
- Resell, rent, or redistribute the service.
The app is licensed to you, not sold. You may install it on your own computers for your personal use while you follow these terms. Garden Studio keeps all rights to the app, the website, and the Workbench Budgeting name.
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time from your account page. Deleting it cancels any subscription immediately, disconnects your banks, and removes your account from our server; data on your computer stays there.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, after telling you why when we reasonably can. If we ever stop offering the service, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice and refund any period you've paid for but won't get to use.
Disclaimers
The service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties, express or implied, including that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for a particular purpose.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Garden Studio won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost data, profits, or savings, arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If you have a problem with the service, please email us first; most things can be sorted out that way. Any dispute that can't be resolved informally will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Illinois, and you and we agree to those courts' jurisdiction. If you live outside the United States, this doesn't take away the protection of any consumer laws of your country that can't be waived by agreement.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top, and for significant changes we'll email account holders at least 14 days before they take effect. If you keep using the service after that, the new terms apply; if you don't agree, cancel before then.
